This phrase, I have predetermined, is bound to describe my experience in Uganda. Basically two days before departure and I’m most definitely on the edgy side, letting nerves run their course and my brain question if I really want to go live in a humid, bug-infested land where wildabeasts roam free and women have to cover their legs like breasts are covered in America.
And at the same time, I have no choice but to be stoked for this beautiful land I get to inhabit–red dirt, green trees, flowers, colors, rivers. And the people I get to live with– a family, willing to take me in as their daughter for 4 months, feed me, & teach me the ways of African life with nothing in return but a simple request that I be willing to learn.
Hard, but good.
